Microsoft renames Xbox Live to 'Xbox network'
Microsoft is changing the name of Xbox Live to the more than commonplace Xbox network, a change the company told The Verge will enable IT to better separate its online networks from the Xbox Live Golden subscription offering.
The change was noticed all over the weekend by solicitous Xbox Live users:

"'Xbox network' refers to the inherent Xbox online inspection and repair, which was updated in the Microsoft Services Agreement," a Microsoft rep told the site. "The update from 'Xbox Be' to 'Xbox network' is intended to distinguish the underlying service from Xbox Live Golden memberships."
Interestingly, rumors of a looming describ change first came to light in August 2020, when Microsoft "changed Xbox Live to refer to Xbox online Service" in its services agreement. The company denied that a list change was in the offing in a statement quite similar to the one it released today, saying that the change to the help terms "refers to the inexplicit Xbox service that includes features alike cross-saves and acquaintance requests."
"This language update is premeditated to distinguish that underlying service, and the paid Xbox Live Gold subscription," Microsoft said at the time. "On that point are zero changes beingness made to the get of the service or Xbox Live out Atomic number 79."
The Xbox Live name change follows similar recent moves from Electronic Arts, which renamed Parentage to the EA Screen background App in September 2020, and Ubisoft, which incorporated Uplay and Ubisoft Clubhouse into Ubisoft Connect a month later. Blizzard tried something similar with Struggle.net in 2017, but it was eventually nonvoluntary to acknowledge that "Engagement.net" was a pretty great name to begin with, and switched in reply.
